The United States is the most popular study place in the world. Most of the top 500 universities are present in the US and over a million students come to the United States every year to study their bachelor’s and masters. Sadly, the United States is also one of the most expensive countries to study with costs being as high as $70,000 per year for international students. Thankfully, the United States is filled with universities that are quite generous to international students.
Here are 5 universities that provide international students with quite a bit of aid through scholarships and part-time jobs. The list contains universities other than the 8 ivy leagues.
AMHERST COLLEGE
Amherst College is said to be the best liberal arts college in the United States and called one of the little ivies. It is situated in Amherst, Massachusetts, and is famous for its need-blind policy. This means that while reviewing applications, they do not see the financial situation of the applicant but only if he suits the need of the university. If they like an applicant, they will meet his financial requirements. Getting into Amherst is very hard and its acceptance rate is only 12.9%.

DUKE UNIVERSITY
Duke University is called one of the most famous universities in the United States with a performance better than many ivy leagues. It is a private research university in Durham, North Carolina, and known for its STEM Programs. Duke is a need-aware school that gives an average aid of $60,000 to international students. It has one of the lowest acceptance rates in the United States being as low as 9%.

The University of Chicago is a University in Chicago, Illinois is known for its quality education in almost all fields and is one of the most diverse universities in the United States. It has a diversity quota and its aid varies from $30,000 to a full-ride scholarship. Getting into the University of Chicago is harder than many Ivy leagues and it boasts of having an acceptance rate of 7%.

TRINITY COLLEGE
Trinity is a private arts college founded as an alternative to Yale. Its also part of the little ivies and has been called the best-valued arts college in the United States. It boasts an acceptance rate of 33% and gives quality education at low costs. The Average cost of attendance after aid is said to be around $17,000 per year.

SWARTHMORE COLLEGE
Another little ivy, it is also a private liberal arts college known for being part of the tri-college Consortium along with Bryn Mawr and Haverford college. It also has a co-operative arrangement with the University of Pennsylvania. For an international student, the average cost of attending Swarthmore after receiving aid is around $17,000 and its acceptance rate is a mere 9.1%. It is popular due to its programs and co-operations with other institutions.

You might have noticed that most of these colleges are liberal arts colleges, that because the United States invests quite heavily on liberal arts colleges. For STEM and business schools, I suggest you look at grants and scholarships offered to international students who aren’t directly offered by the University. You will have to search for them online, choose your University according to your situation. If you need to take a loan, its best to take it from banks in your own country as then you pay in dollars while they receive in their currency which might make things a bit easier.
