Mumbai After COVID-19, Earthquakes, Cyclone Amphan, Locust attack which made irreparable damage to the country, 2020 has unleashed yet another Cyclone which is one of the worst cyclones after the 1960s. Cyclone Nisarga made landfall just after a week of Cyclone Amphan which made severe destruction in the state of West Bengal and Odisha.
Cyclone Nisarga made landfall with 120/140 Km/h at 12″30 PM near Alibaug in Mumbai which is just 140 km away from Mumbai. According to Indian Metrological Department Chief KS Hasalikar, Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Palghar were hit with the wind of more than 100 Km/hr.
As expected, Nisarga made heavy devastation in different parts of Mumbai and Maharashtra. Several Katcha houses, Thatched houses, Unattached metal sheets, 11 electric poles, and over 85 trees have fallen in Mumbai in the last 24 hours. And as many as two people died and three injured. Among the deaths, A 53-year-old man in Alibaug died after an electric bill fall over him, A 65-year-old died after the wall of her house and roof blown away from the house.
Mobile network in different parts of Mumbai has blackout due to which people are facing a problem. Pre- Cyclone, 40,000 people near the sea coast, and 15,000 people from Alibaug were evacuated. Many trains were rescheduled, 20 flights were canceled, fishermen were alerted and rescue workers were put on duty.
NDRF has deployed 43 teams in Maharashtra and Gujarat. As per the officials, the NDRF team deployed in Maharashtra has spread in Mumbai, Palghar, Thane, Raigadh, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg.
The Indian Coast Guard has also mobilized eight disaster relief teams in Maharashtra for any kind of assistance during Cyclone. The northeast part of Pune district will also be affected because of the storm, heavy rain will be witnessed in Pune.
However, Cyclone Nisarga didn’t cause any major damage to the southern coast of Gujarat.
