Jennifer Lopez sued for copyright infringement of her own photo

Jennifer The famous Hollywood actress and singer, Jennifer Lopez, was sued for posting a picture of herself on Instagram that was posted in her account in 2017.

New York photographer, Jennifer Steve Sands, accused the actress and her production team for copyright infringement and seeks for a fine of $150k. Since then the photo has been surrounding tons of controversies that are accusing her of merely using the picture without permission with a purpose to promote her brand on social media.

The lawsuit provided further details

The lawsuit which was filed in Manhattan federal court read this news,

 “This is an example of celebrities using photographers’ photographs without permission to brand themselves on social media. The number of likes the photograph receives coupled with their number of social media followers Jennifer is a tool to commercialize their posts.”

Here are the further details that the suit stated against Lopez’s action of posting the photo without permission causing a copyright infringement.

Plaintiff never licensed the Photograph to defendant. Nevertheless, Lopez used it without authorization or permission from plaintiff to do so,” “Specifically, Lopez or someone acting on her behalf copied the Photograph and distributed it on Instagram, via the @jlo account, on a story posted November 7, 2017.”

“The Photograph is Jennifer creative, distinctive, and valuable,” according to the court docs. “Because of the subject’s celebrity status, and the Photograph’s quality and visual appeal, plaintiff (and the photographer it represents) stood to gain revenue from licensing the Photograph.”

Although there have been many rising questions in regard to this copyright infringement, Jennifer Lopez has not come forward to speak about it at all. We wonder whether she is merely surrendering or buckling up for the right time. Until we get to the other side of the story, let’s wait for Jennifer what happens next!
