The rapid rise in the number of Indian districts to be affected by COVID-19 in the past 20 days, from 84 to 284, causes serious cause of concern and throws light on the deteriorating condition of the pandemic in India. About 284 districts in India have at least one case of Coronavirus infection.

Worst Affected Districts in India


Currently, Maharashtra is the worst affected state of India with more than 1100 confirmed cases of COVID-19 (as per government records). Mumbai itself has recorded more than 850 cases and has the highest number of active patients in the country. However, till April 8, the district to show maximum increase in the number of cases was South Delhi with the addition of 316 patients. Next worst affected districts were Mumbai with 278 cases more and Kasaragod with 121 additional cases.

Identified CORONA VIRUS HOTSPOTS in the Country

As for April 2, the Ministry of Health and Family in India had identified 20 existing and 22 potential coronavirus hotspots around the country. Some of the prominent hotspots of Coronavirus spread in India are

  1. Mumbai, Maharashtra
  2. Pune, Maharashtra
  3. Noida, Uttar Pradesh
  4. Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, Kasaragod, Kerala
  5. Bhilwara, Rajasthan

Other than these prominent districts, around 25 hotspots have been identified by the Delhi government. Parts of 15 districts in Uttar Pradesh which includes Lucknow, Agra, Varanasi, Kanpur, Gaziabad etc. have been identified as corona clusters.

After several religious gatherings across the country, the number of positive cases in Tamil Nadu has almost doubled. Currently, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Delhi are the top three most affected states in the country. Andhra Pradesh has also seen a significant rise in the number of positive cases.

Ways to Prevent Infection from Corona Virus Hotspot

As directed by several specialists and the WHO itself, Coronavirus spread from the hotspots can be prevented by mass testing and complete isolation of the suspected patients. Presently Delhi and UP have completely sealed all their identified hotspots. Similar steps will probably be undertaken by other states as well. Also maintaining physical distance and washing of hands at regular intervals are the only means to prevent yourself from contracting the virus.
